Maria Aurèlia Capmany (1918-1991) was a Catalan writer, teacher, politic and playwright who played a crucial role in cultural history and the feminist movement in Catalonia. Due to the commemoration of the centenary of her birth, Barcelona’s City Council and the Female journalist association of Catalonia, they wanted to develop an action to honour her.
| One of the most multidisciplinary faces of Catalonia’s XX century
An audiovisual peace was asked to praise her memory as a great cultural activist, feminist, politic and one of the most multidisciplinary writers in Catalonia, who wrote more than 70 compositions. Capmany took profit to her writing skills to put into words her thoughts about the feminist movement, which was also influenced by her political side, being part of the City Council.
“Women won’t achieve anything if don’t understand and accept that their fight is not just a fight in favour of women, but also in favour of an oppressed, used and unfairly treated person.“
“Words are used to communicate, but also to mask something. Sometimes, they’re used to mask ourselves as a better version of ourselves.”
The result was an 8-minute video starred by the actress Anna Güell, who plays Maria Aurèlia Capmany exalting her feminism and her love for her city, Barcelona.
